海啸追袭奥特曼:马来西亚报纸就刊登日本大地震漫画致歉

A Malaysian newspaper publicly apologised Monday after it triggered uproar with a cartoon depicting the popular Japanese icon Ultraman running away from an oncoming tsunami. The Malay-language Berita Harian, one of Malaysia's main dailies, drew heavy criticism, especially on social networking websites, after it published the cartoon on Sunday on its comment page.
日前,马来西亚的《每日新闻报》因刊登著名动漫形象奥特曼逃离日本大地震海啸追袭的漫画而引发骚乱,周一这家报纸公开表示道歉。《每日新闻报》是马来西亚的主要日报之一,周日它在时评页面里刊登了漫画内容后收到强烈抨击,尤其是来自于网络的批判。

"We do not intend to be insensitive or to poke fun at last Friday's incident," the paper said in a front-page apology Monday, adding that it was "very sympathetic" to the plight of the Japanese people.

Malaysians had launched online petitions to pressure the paper to apologise, while many politicians also criticised the publication.

Khairy Jamaluddin, leader of the youth wing of the ruling United Malays National Organisation, wrote on his Twitter feed that the cartoon was "totally insensitive towards the Japanese people" and asked the paper to say sorry.
