Notify = not-（知道）+ -ify（使，动词词尾），即通知、使知道，引申词义为“通知、通告”。同近义词有inform。Inform指传达事实或信息，或指经过研究或调查而获得的事实或信息。而Notify指正式通知需要注意的事情。
