nomination (n.)

early 15c., "act of mentioning by name," from Middle French nomination

(14c.), and directly from Latin nominationem (nominative nominatio) "a naming, designation," from nominare "to name" (see nominate (v.)). Meaning "fact of being proposed as a candidate" is attested from late 15c.
